Turf is the most water intensive element of California gardens. Replacing turf with a sustainable garden can reduce water use per square foot by 70% or more. For this Tudor-style Piedmont home we removed the thirsty lawn and outdated landscaping. We installed a fun, colorful, drought tolerant meadow garden with a drip irrigation system and crushed black basalt gravel mulch.
